Lyrics

Coffee with Buddha

Coffee with Buddha never tasted so good
Sitting and smiling at this man made of wood
Kicking back in the living room
Strumming this box and humming a tune

We watch the birds swim by
on the lake as the waves break on the other side
We breathe in quite harmony
My little wooden Buddha Buddha and me my

He says just look inside answers are there
Look outside and become aware of how to be
You can learn the truth from me

Jammin with Buddha never sounded so good
I’d go on the road with this deity if I could
We’d drive all day and we’d play all night
Singing our favorites like
No Woman No Cry

And we watch the clouds float by
as we rest in the tall grass by the roadside
we breathe in quiet harmony
my little wooden Buddha my Buddha and me

He says just look inside answers are there
Look out side and become aware of how to be
you can learn the truth from me.

Everything is gonna be alright…

Good Time Bowling Lanes

With a bag in one hand and her shoes in the other
She walks across the parking lot next to her mother
Her folks exchange hellos details and plans
No longer do they share the rings on their hands.

With a ball in one hand and his beer in the other
Her father tells her go say good bye to your mother
She’s used to the drill, familiar with the feeling
Her heart sinking low watching her mom leaving.

For years this is how she has spent Saturdays
Meeting up with her father at the good time bowling lanes

Now her mom has a new love her dad a new friend
Weekends feel so short when marriage comes to an end
She tries to squeeze it in and get all the love she can
Cause when Sunday rolls around she starts all over again.

For years this is how she has spent Saturdays
Meeting up with her father at the good time bowling lanes.

Good times good times having such a good time...

If He Believes

No more suit and tie for you just writing songs will do
You profess to love it more so one day you shut the door
To that life of glass and steel cause it’s not what makes it real
No it’s not what makes you feel like living

A one room flat and polished shoes to tap the rhythm
Of the blues down in the bar below the station
He wants to hear what he’s been missin
What he’s been missin all these years cause he’s been
Held back by his fears an incarnation of this musician.

One Man one guitar one dream that could go far
If he feeds it what it needs if he craves if he believes

A path revealed to her at night on a train ride out of sight
He says he’s doing what feels right for the first time
Now just the lights from the city street show the smiles when they meet good -bye bitter, good -bye sweet.

One Man one guitar one dream that could go far
If he feeds it what it needs if he craves if he believes

Love and Comforting

Breathe Easy it’s just me,
I’ll close the door and tip toe across the floor
To where you are in your own world
Don’t have to worry bout who to be around me.

I sense you’re sorry about what’s been said
It’s crossed my mind too
It’s funny how minds are so easily read
Stop pretending that I don’t know cause we’ve both been there
And it’s an easy place to go.

No justifying is needed for what we’re both feeling
Hurtful words surround us
Now it’s time for love and comforting

It’s not easy to know what to say
I’ll try not to judge you cause
I know that judgement just gets in the way of forgiveness
You know the kind when our heads hang low
And tears fall from our eyes

So breathe easy it’s just me open the door
And I’ll run to your arms like I’ve done before
I’ll be patient just try from the start
I will be listening for all those words from your heart

No justifying is needed for what we’re both feeling
Hurtful words surround us
Now it’s time for love and comforting

People Change (no one’s to blame)

She’s got whiskey on her breath he can taste it in her kiss
He can smell the conversation that she’s wearing on her clothes
And when she walks in it’s three am the bar has long been closed
He’s been waiting since nine for his woman to come home.

Earlier they had a fight it was bad enough to leave dust
Behind her hang over the road he tried reasoning but in her mind
There’s just no go reason for him to be cheating on her

Well that one night turns into a week six months later
He’s packing his things, she tries to figure out shaking her head
She wants to know how to keep him in her bed.
He says babe, no one’s to blame, the simple truth is…people change.

The girls at the bar says it happens all the time
She says not to me he’s not that kind of guy
They say you’d be surprised now how many stray and just don’t tell you
So you won’t be hurting the next day.

Well that one night turns into a week six months later
He’s packing his things, she tries to figure out shaking her head
She wants to know how to keep him in her bed.
He says babe, no one’s to blame, the simple truth is…people change.

Remember

You use bits of leather old bird feathers dresses and memories.
From tattered boxes you stamp out letters spelling the history,
of the stories that pull at you to tell the truth

There’s newsprint and lace, paint and pictures
a girls old wedding gown. The dress becomes the canvas
the method for your madness to put the story down.
Put the story down; put it where we can see it.
Put the story down where we can see it.

We try to store them away not just for today but forever
Cause it’s easier to forget them then to face them and remember.

Time won’t heal the wounds that we feel,
it just seems to make them fade.
Whether white like new snow or black like a crow
Memories fade to grey. Memories you know they fade
To ease the pain. You know memories fade to ease the pain

We try to store them away not just for today but forever
Cause it’s easier to forget them then to face them and remember.

Someday

She told him she loved him
She gave him her heart
Gave it to him Valentine’s Day
Thought it might make a difference
to have cupid hangin by her side
but it didn’t quite turn out that way
cupid couldn’t stay

He said but I think you’re really cool
I think your sweet and fine
You’re even kinda special
You’re just not my kind

So there you stand
holding my heart in your hand
I don’t want you to keep it anymore
Come on give it back to me
Be careful you know it’s slippery
I don’t want you to drop it on the floor.

He said but I think you’re really cool
I think your sweet and fine
You’re even kind of special
You’re just not my kind

Don’t worry baby
love will come your way
You know it will yeah
you’ll find love someday
you’ll find love someday
You’ll find it, you’ll find it
When you’re not looking
When you’re not looking

Stay with Me

Sit back take it in I don’t know where
I want to begin but I can feel it in my bones
And I know your tired of being alone

I love the way you laugh and sing
I love to hear the band when it swings
I love the way it feels so right
When we dance when you hold
Me close and tight

It takes time don’t be scared I am feeling
Fairly aware we’re both strong we’re
Friends and I promise you our friendship
Won’t end.

Won’t you stay with me tonight

I love the way you laugh and sing
I love to hear that band when it swings
I love the way it feels so right
When we dance when you hold
Me close and tight

Lay back take it in cause
I know where I want to begin
Just relax and open your eyes and
Watch me fill your soul tonight.
Won’t you stay…come on baby
Stay

Time of Day

I wanna know your name
I wanna know how it feels
When it slips through my lips
Gotta know need to know
I wanna know your name

I need to know right now
And won’t you tell me how
To spell and to say
Gotta know need to know
I wanna know your name

You know that I…..
I might chase you down
You know that I….
I might run around town
Just asking your name
So won’t you give me the time of day

Cause when I know your name
I’m gonna shout it out
Tell all the people what you’re all about
Everyone I meet, up and down the street
Well they will soon find out
What it means to me just to know

Just to know your name
Cause when I see your face
I want to know what to say
If it’s not too much all I really need
is just a little bit of your time

Come on baby
Come on sugar…

Too Damn Happy

Maybe if I shot heroin
Maybe if I smoked the weed
Maybe if I was drunk and falling
Down, down, down
Maybe then that’s when
You’d Love me

Maybe if I were miserable
Or if I were suffering
Maybe if I was married
And looking to escape
Maybe then you’d love me

But I guess I’m too damn happy
I’m too centred for you
I guess when you’re around me
That’s when you come
That’s when you come unglued

Maybe if I was shallow
Maybe if I was more confused
Or if I was selfish and looking for
Someone to use maybe then
That’s when you’d love me.

Walk With Me

Walk with me my love
My love my love
Love may come and go
This time it’s for real
Take me as I am
I give myself to you, to you

It’s been rare to find
A soul that speaks to mine
Open up your arms
Open up my heart

Nothing feels so right
As when I’m by your side
Come and take my hand
Walk with me walk with me
My love my love

Walk with me walk with me…

You be the Raven
(dedicated to Mary Oliver)

You be the rain I’ll be the earth
Waiting for you to come wet my thirst
You be the sun I’ll be a rose
Unfold my pedals from the warmth of your glow
You be a maple I’ll be the leaves that fall
From your branches and blanket your feet

You be the raven I’ll be your wings
We’ll ride the thermals whistle and sing
You be the stars I’ll be the moon
We’ll circle the earth and make lovers swoon.

You be the shore I’ll be the tide that
Flows over you both morning and night
You be the wind I’ll be a field rolling
And swaying to you I will yield
You be the night I’ll be the dream that
Drifts in and out of a peaceful sleep

You be the raven I’ll be your wings
We’ll ride the thermals whistle and sing
You be the stars I’ll be the moon
We’ll circle the earth and make lovers swoon.
